Random ::Mr.Crikey Dies::

Steve Irwin a very well known conservationist and a Discovery channel celebrity died today.  He was killed by a stingray while filming off the great Barrier Reef for a tv series ‘Ocean’s Deadliest’.

I remember first seeing this man talking about animals and his passion for crocodiles years and years ago on Animal Planet or Discovery (I forget which).  He was soon an instant favorite in our family and we all would gather around the tv set whenever ‘Crocodile Hunter’ came on.

He was passionate when it comes to animals.  He loved all animals but his favorites were the crocodile hence the name ‘Crocodile Hunter’.  Steve made learning about animals the most enjoyable thing ever.

“He came on top of the stingray and the stingray’s barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart,” said Stainton, who was on board Irwin’s boat at the time.

Crew members aboard the boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead when they arrived a short time later, Stainton said.

Its sad to see that he had died at only 44 years of age.  And the fact that he has left behind two young children (one 8 and the other not yet 3) is very heart wrenching.

The beautiful thing about his death is that he died while doing what he loved best.  We will all miss him very very much.
