Car Trouble

Posted in Driving with tags , , , on Thursday, April 24, 2008 by dragonsvamp

I woke up last night at around one in the morning to a car’s alarm going off outside my house.  I thought it might be my car but wasn’t about to go see. There usually are no cars around where I live and so it was natural to assume something was up with mine.  It took me a while before I was able to fall asleep.  Every creak I heard and every moan of the wind made me believe something was up.

Then I fell asleep.

I woke up late.  I had about ten to fifteen minutes to get dressed and get out of the house.  I was thankful that I had been smart enough the night before to get my clothes ironed and ready.  I put them on and hurried out- with the trash in one hand and my laptop in the other.  I go to unlock my door and realized it was already unlocked.  I look at my car and realize that there’s glass all over my seats.

My front passenger window was shattered.  There was a HUGE brick sitting on the passenger seat.

A few months ago my car gets stuck in the snow.  I pay an arm load to get it towed out of there.  Then two weeks ago I got a speeding ticket.  It was Thursday last day of the college week for my classes and I was exhausted. I wanted to go home and get working on my essay and then go to sleep.  I didn’t realize I was driving over the speed limit and it was raining. The street was litterally empty.

The police stopped me and gave me a ticket. $100 dollars (besides whatever I’ll end up paying for a lawyer to fight the case for me so I don’t get any points on my license which results in hiked up insurance costs for three years afterwards) down the drain because of my irresponsibility.  IA never gonna happen again.

And now this.  I guess I might as well look on the bright side as my friend Kenaz always would tell me.  It could have been much much worse.  They could have broken all the windows or trashed my seats as well.  Or got under the hood and wrecked that. Whoever they are.

I called the police and filed a report but that’s pretty much all i can do.

I need to move into an actual apartment complex.

Work/Uni ::Spring Break::

Posted in Work Arama with tags , , on Sunday, April 6, 2008 by dragonsvamp

Well spring break has come and is almost gone.  I can’t believe it. I’ve been looking forward to spring break (unlike when I was dreading winter break) and the week before spring break dragged like you wouldn’t believe.  But here I am writing as all things must come to pass. Tomorrow is the last day of spring break and though I’m refreshed from my break I feel as though I didn’t get enough time off.

As when I last talked of my week, I’ve been really busy (again unlike the boring two weeks of winter break). I only had spring break off of work (at the private school) and so still had my college courses to attend.  Then I had to go to my math councilor and take the math placement test. I babysat and cooked and cleaned and hung out with friends.

I also worked on homework.  I believe I’ve done the most amount of work in one week’s time this spring break than any other week of this semester.  I had to write a short story (it’s still in the process of being written and is so far 9 pages long), I also had to write a 1500 word or more paper for my creative writing class (all finished. Next week is my last 1500 words for the semester), I also read two chapters from my psychology book for my test that was on Wednesday.  This is the first time I read anything in the book for my class.  The last time I went through the book I only looked at the pictures.

And I am currently working on this 18 paged monster of a paper I keep whining about. Seriously, I have barely any space on my bed to sit let alone sleep. It’s completely covered with library books, notebooks, scraps of papers, folders, and pens and pencils.  So far I’ve written five pages- almost a third of the way through!  I’ll probably get the professor to read it to make sure I’m on the right track.  I don’t want to write 18 pages and find out that I completely went off track and end up with a B on it!

And that’s not all folks! No sirrree.  I’ve got one last extra credit paper to write. It has to be at least two pages about a study of my choice from a book called Forty Studies that Changed Psychology or something similar to that title by Roger Hock.  I might not need the extra credit but since I’m on a brink of A-/B+ in this course I’d rather get the extra boost and get an A without the minus if I can.

So what next?  What’s planned for my last day of spring break?  Well I’ll be going to soccer of course. That’s a Sunday ritual.  But after that I’m going to the university library and get my hands on that psychology book.  I can’t check it out of the library so I’m going to have to take notes and write my essay there.  Hopefully I can finish it and come back tomorrow evening with that paper ready to be edited (by the friends I’ll end up shamelessly begging to read it for me) and then ready to be shipped off to the professor.

If I get this paper done tomorrow and keep progress like this with the 18 paged monster I’ll truly be in complete and utter amazement at myself! If this actually happens I’ll be breaking away from the ever over-shadowing presence of procrastination! I’ll be able to prove to myself that I, Kloude of all kloudes, am not a complete and utter procrastinator! (Because you know what? The two last papers aren’t due until the 16th and 17th and my short story’s rough draft is only due this coming Monday and the final isn’t due until the 21st or 23d.)

Ahh but work is on the horizon.  Once works starts back up again I’m going to be swamped! I’m also part of a committe that’s organizing a weekend trip/conference to Shanty Creek for this memorial day weekend. I’m going to be in charge of looking after and keeping entertained the elementary aged kids for one and a half hours two times a day for the two days of the weekend (six hours in total if you’re not able to comprehend what I wrote. Yes I know I get confusing when I get excited). We’re meeting bimonthly and the next meeting is this Wednesday (have yet to get anything done for the meeting that I’m supposed to).  I also had planned to organize the yearbook layout for the yearbook class this week so that we can get cracking on putting it together when we meet this Tuesday.  Haven’t done that yet (ok ok I’ve got to procrastinate somewhere! My education is the priority here- sheesh so stop looking at me like that!)

I’m sure i’ve forgotten to do something else but that’s typical of me.  Just wish me luck the next two months go by as quickly as possible. Summer break has never looked so appealing as it does now. I need a few months break to recoup from the stress of working three jobs and going to college etc etc etc.  And I look forward to get a taste of something new. I want to work at a job I’ve never done before (we’ll see how easily I can find that). I want to have a job but not feel stressed about it being my life-line and that’s what my summer jobs will hopefully be like since I’ll still be getting my salary from my full time job I won’t be in dire need of a job during the summer and so it’ll be purely out of my WANTING the job instead of needing it. I do miss my kids though. I hope they (all 18 of them) miss me too.

Oh yes! I also signed up to take an astronomy class this summer.  I am kind of nervous about it but really excited at the same time. As long as I don’t have to memorize too much information I’ll be completely fine.  But I welcome a change from studying English.  This semester the change was taking the psychology class. In the fall hopefully the change will be in taking a math class (haven’t taken one in over three years).

Anywho, I’m quite sure you’re brain is going on strike right now if you’ve even been able to bare through all of the above to get to this last paragraph.  I applaud you.  If you got here this means my writing isn’t as boring as I think it is.  If you haven’t gotten here yet that means I’ve deservedly lost my readership because I’m just plain too boring to be handled.

I guess I should sleep if I want to get anything done tomorrow. 😀

GI ::Library Books and Writing::

Posted in General Idiocracy with tags , , on Saturday, April 5, 2008 by dragonsvamp

It really pisses me off when I get books from the library and find people had written and/ or highlighted in them.  Seriously, even if the notes are helpful it still drives me up the wall. These books aren’t ours to vandalize as we wish.  Can’t we keep them nice and neat so that the people who borrow them later on end up following suit?  If we write in them now the kids who borrow them later will look at the book and figure a little more writing in the margins won’t hurt since there’s already writing in the book.

This is absolutely wrong but I’m sure people will rationalize this way.  What happened to taking notes in a notebook?  Have we become rendered so poor that we can’t afford notebooks? If you’re nodding then there’s something seriously wrong with you.

We are privileged to begin with by having libraries. During the four years I lived in Jordan in the Middle East there was NO SUCH THING as a public library.  Why don’t we just respect this privilege and return the favor by not ruining that which is being given to us.

Even if our taxes go towards building these libraries and funding them it still doesn’t give us the right to ruin their contents.  Because just like in Jordan, the government could always say to hell with us and use the tax money allotted for libraries and the like towards (in their opinion) more important things like funding the Iraq war.

Uni ::Lorde, Lorde, Lorde!::

Posted in University in America with tags , , , , , , on Friday, April 4, 2008 by dragonsvamp

I just realized that I only have twelve days to write an 18 paged research essay (what am I doing writing here then?! I should be studying not wasting time!) when I had thought I had three weeks. Oh great.

I only just started reading up on the poet I’m to write about, Audre Lorde. I just started tonight. I’m at a complete loss as to what I’m going to be doing and how I’m going to organize my essay. Seriously! It’s 18 pages! Oh My God. That’s just beginning to set in. I’ve never had a problem writing essays until this class. It took me four papers! FOUR to figure out what the professor was looking for. I got Bs on each paper until I hit the Jackpot on paper #4 when I got a B+/A-!

So now I know what kind of writing appeals my professor but still I don’t know how I’m going to write an 18 paged paper without going off course or something. I’m sure there’s more than 18 pages worth of stuff Lorde has achieved that can be written about but how to tie them in with her poetry I am very unsure at the moment.

I’ll have to spend the rest of my spring break (spring break you say? what spring break?) going crazy over studying as if I hadn’t already done a ton of studying/writing for my other classes already (about 15 pages of creative writing for my creative writing class and read two whole chapters and notes for my Psychology test that was yesterday. So far making an A+ in CW and I have a good chance at an A or A- in Psychology. So all I’m worrying about right now is my Poetry class which I’m averaging a B on and I can easily get an A if I try hard enough on this paper [it’s worth 60% of my grade to boot!])

Since I’m now listing what I’ve been up to this week I’ll also add that I’ve talked to my Math counselor and have officially added my second major! WEEEEEHHEEEEEE! I took the math placement test today. Actually had to take TWO tests! ARGH.

This is what happened… I get to the university today at thirty minutes past two- my poetry class starts at four. The placement exam is supposed to take no longer than one hour. The lady asks me which math placement test I’m supposed to take. I didn’t take any trigonometry in high school and so I end up taking the ‘blue’ test. I get 28/30 and that means I have to take the ‘yellow’ test (which is for students who did take trig). So after 40 minutes on this one test I should have just skipped it and taken the other one- which I could have. The blue test was sooooo easy I’m surprised I got two wrong (show’s I’m human).

So I look at the watch. I’ve got forty minutes until my class was to start. I figured I’d finish in time. I open the math book and I stare in utter horror for a minute. It almost looks like a new language to me. ALMOST. But of course I’d taken a lot of the information in the ‘yellow’ test when I took Algebra 2- I just couldn’t remember a single number of it.

It took me exactly one hour to finish the test and I knew I had done terrible. I had a massive headache by the time I was done and it was already fifteen minutes past four. I was late for class. I’d never been late for class before.

The lady scanned the scantron and told me I got 17/30. Boohoo right? Well apparently 17 correct got me into the Calculus 1 class. I had taken the blue test a few months ago and got 26/30 which placed me into the Pre-Calc class. So apparently 17/30 is better in this case.

Show’s how we’re fickle. When we look at 17/30 as opposed to 26/30 we automatically assume the latter score is better. In my case the former was what I needed not the latter.

Thank God that’s over and done with.

I’ve just decided I’ll have a go at writing the extra credit paper for my Psychology class. I’m borderline B+ and A- and the paper has a max of 10 extra points. That could make the difference between getting an A and an A- or if I really mess up my last test the paper will decide whether I get a B+ or an A-.

I realized I’m very much type A personality. I can’t handle the thought of getting a B now when an A is so within my reach. If I’d stop being a couch/bed potato and get my ass crunching on those papers of mine.

Pray for me. (InshaAllah/God willing) I’ll get through this!
